I am often asked “What should I see in Naples?” This depends, of course, on what your interests are: whether it is art, shopping, food, history, or all of them; but the question made me realize that I could provide a unique and engaging opportunity for the discerning traveler. In fact, if you are adventurous and seek TO MOVE BEYOND the average tourist experience I can offer you the opportunity to capture unique aspects of local life. From a tour of a mozzarella factory to a personal guided tour of the National Museum and countless adventures in between- you decide.

THE ART AND HISTORY OF NEAPOLITAN

PIZZA MAKING

Pizza making has been an art since the second millennium BC, but since the creation of its modern version in 1780 to present day, Neapolitan Pizza has had incredible success the world over and alas, many imitations. This trip is designed to go back to the origins where generations of pizza makers have always made it the traditional way. With hands on experience, the guest will learn the basics of pizza making with a private master lesson, and will see how mozzarella cheese, one of the main ingredients of a successful pizza, is made. This theme package includes a visit to the original birthplace of pizza Margherita, –Brandi– in Naples, a visit to a local mozzarella factory, in season you will pick the freshest tomatoes directly from the vine, and make your own pizza at a "tavolata" pizza fest in the evening. It promises to be very tasty!!!

FOLLOWING THE ANCHOVIES

This package is designed for the discerning gourmet who would love to see how local specialties are made. For instance, the colatura di alici, drippings from anchovies, or garum – as the ancient Romans called it, is a delicious art that is typical of the Amalfi coast, but few tourists even know its existence. The package includes a trip to Cetara, home of the colatura, with stops along the way to Gragnano - at the Garofalo pasta factory, local fishing ports on the Amalfi Coast, and a final dinner or “tavolata” (long table) to taste the fantastic products of this fertile land and sea.

THE ROUTE OF WWII ALLIED LANDING IN ITALY - ANZIO

OPERATION SHINGLE (JANUARY 22, 1944)

Italy's recent history is tied in with many other countries whose soldiers helped to establish its freedom during World War II.  Many of those who participated in the Mediterranean theater have gone back to revisit combat zones, towns and places that hold good and bad memories. Much has changed, but the fallen are still honored and remembered. In this theme package we will trace the landing of the WWII allies in Anzio. We will visit the Museum that holds memorabilia, and the American War cemetery.
